Uploading files
Getting your music into Geniviv is the first thing you’ll do. Here’s how, and what happens behind the scenes.
Two ways to upload
Section titled “Two ways to upload”-
Drag and drop. Drag one or more files from your computer straight into the folder you want them in. Geniviv picks them up and starts uploading.
-
Use the upload button. Prefer clicking? Use the upload control and choose files from your computer. Same result.
Either way, your files land in the current folder and become part of your organization’s shared library.
What happens when you upload
Section titled “What happens when you upload”When you add a file, Geniviv:
- Stores it safely in your organization’s space.
- Records who uploaded it — that’s you, and you become its owner.
- Makes it visible according to its folder’s defaults (organization-wide unless you’ve made it private).
- Logs the upload in the file’s activity history.
Uploading a new take of an existing file
Section titled “Uploading a new take of an existing file”If you’re not adding a brand-new file but a new take of one that already exists, you don’t upload a separate file — you add a new version to the existing one. This keeps every take together under one file, with full history. See Versions.
Tips for smooth uploads
Section titled “Tips for smooth uploads”- Name files clearly before uploading. A good name now saves confusion later — though you can always rename in Geniviv.
- Drop files into the right folder. It’s easy to move them afterward, but starting in the right place keeps your library tidy.
- Let big files finish. Larger audio files take a moment — keep the tab open until the upload completes.
